 Wall Paper Installation
Unlike modern wallpaper, wall murals are made out of heavy poster paper. When they are wet, please take extra care while handling your mural.
Before you start:
Lay out each panel next to it's matching panel. Look for good color match, pattern match and defects. If you find defects, please call us at 877-842-4294 before installing.
Preparing your wall:
Two coats of inexpensive flat white latex paint will provide the optimal surface for installing your mural in most cases (paint must be completely dry 24-36 hrs.). Remember that rough or textured walls are not good candidates for these murals because they may tear the mural or cause poor adhesion. In addition, walls that have a slick or gloss finish will prevent good adhesion.
Mark straight horizontal and vertical lines on your wall to line up the first panels.
Mixing dry paste:
Most murals will come with a package of dry paste. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the dry adhesive. If purchasing paste, a cellulose paste or a non-staining, clear, ready mixed wallpaper paste will work.
Applying with paste:
If the mural becomes too wet with paste the paper will become weak and tear easily. We do not recommend booking unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically recommend it. Booking the mural panels (the process of folding and letting the glue absorb into wallpaper) could cause the mural panel to weaken and tear. We recommend that you apply the paste first to the wall and then to the mural panel so that the mural does not become too wet.
Installing the panels:
Follow the manufacturer's instructions about the order of panel installation. Do not wait too long between installation of each panel or the panel designs will not lineup correctly. The mural begins to dry and contract once on the wall so be prepared to proceed with each panel until the job is done.
Overlap each panel 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch to prevent a gap between the panels from showing once dry.
Trimming of the perimeter should be done once the mural has dried to prevent tearing. Bubbles will recede when dry.
Carefully remove paste from the front of the mural. Too much rubbing or cleaning will remove the ink from the paper.
